What is an infrared sauna?

Infrared saunas use infrared heaters to emit infrared light, which is experienced as radiant heat that is directly absorbed by the body. This type of sauna differs from traditional saunas by heating the body directly rather than warming the air around it.

We choose to go with the best in the industry, Sunlighten Saunas, known for its advanced technology that provides benefits such as detoxification, relaxation, improved circulation, and pain relief. Many users also report enhanced skin health and a sense of well-being after regular sessions.

Infrared Sauna FAQs

  • Traditional saunas use heated rocks or a stove to produce high temperatures, typically ranging from 150°F to 195°F (65°C to 90°C), which in turn heats the air and surfaces inside the sauna. In contrast, infrared saunas use infrared heaters to emit infrared light that directly heats the body without significantly warming the surrounding air. This allows infrared saunas to operate at lower temperatures, typically between 120°F to 150°F (49°C to 65°C), while still providing similar health and relaxation benefits as traditional saunas.

  • The frequency and duration of infrared sauna sessions can vary based on individual preferences, goals, and health considerations. Generally, many people find benefit from using an infrared sauna 2-3 times per week, with each session lasting approximately 20-30 minutes. However, it is essential to listen to your body, start with shorter sessions if you are new to infrared sauna use, and consult with a healthcare provider or sauna expert to determine an appropriate and personalized regimen based on your specific needs and circumstances.

  • EMF stands for "electromagnetic field." EMFs are invisible lines of force produced by electrically charged objects, and they can be found wherever electricity is present. If you're looking into using infrared saunas, you want to be sure that you find a high-quality design that's safe for you and your family. To put our members at ease, we’ve partnered with Sunlighten Saunas, who have had their infrared panels independently certified as low-EMF from the world-renowned EMF-testing experts at Vitatech Electromagnetics.

  • The average temperature of an infrared sauna typically ranges from 120°F to 150°F (49°C to 65°C).

  • Sunlighten saunas offer exceptional air quality, verified by third-party tests. Volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) are chemicals commonly found in many home building and maintenance products. Once these chemicals are in our homes, they are released into the indoor air we breathe. Sunlighten hired APEX Environmental Consultants to conduct air quality tests on a sampling of our saunas during a session. The results confirmed that Sunlighten’s saunas contain only trace levels of various VOCs. No airborne metals, sulfur dioxide, or carbon black were detected. “The air quality in the tested saunas should be considered excellent and provides a good example for the industry to follow.”
